Senior Buyer

TEAM is seeking an Senior Buyer to work with our group in Morristown, TN.  This position will be on-site at our Morristown, Tennessee facilities with occasional travel required.

A Senior Buyer is responsible for the timely placement of purchase orders and delivery of materials to meet customer order requirements and maintain stock inventory levels within approved guidelines. Acts autonomously to make decisions of magnitude for the continuity of supply chain without guidance. Assigns item numbers to new raw materials and also participates in new product initiation. Search for suppliers who are ISO certified and/or governed by quality manual and supply quality materials at a competitive price. Record data by item numbers verifying cost savings. Work with Quality Managers at each plant to obtain credit/correction for vendor errors. In addition to being able to perform the duties of both Buyer & Purchasing Agent, the Senior Buyer would oversee, manage, train and develop and influence the others on the purchasing team.

How will you contribute to the team?

  • Prepares purchase orders by verifying specifications and price; obtaining recommendations from suppliers for substitute items; obtaining approval from Director of Purchasing.
  • Verifies receipt of items by comparing items received to items ordered; resolves shipments in error with suppliers.
  • Authorizes payment for purchases by forwarding receiving documents.
  • Uses electronic systems to import and organize documents, track vendor information and create and process purchase orders.
  • Provides purchasing planning and control information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.
  • Accomplishes purchasing and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
  • Exercises responsibility for accurate and timely performance of all activities.
  • Notifies sales/customer service of delays or issues.
  • Assists with cycle counts.
  • Meets with qualified suppliers to negotiate cost savings for reduced pricing.
  • Participates in cost savings by finding alternate suppliers and tracking their progress through material studies.
  • Conduct internal and external meetings in a professional manner.
  • Performs follow-up/facilitation functions of tracking by running the following reports: Critical inventory, late purchase orders, open sales orders (with regard to RM needs), employee time and attendance, purchase receiving log, supply component tracking tools, consumption, BOM explosion, standard costing and any other tools to manage and hold accountable the purchasing team.
  • Other duties as assigned

What will you contribute?

  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must be very proficient, quick, and comfortable with personal computer navigation and operation.
  • MS Office skills, AX Microsoft Dynamics (a must), Advanced skills in Excel and Word.
  • BS Degree in Business, Logistics or related field and/or three years in Purchasing Agent role or as evaluated by Director of Purchasing (for internal hires).
  • Post-secondary courses in purchasing preferred.
  • Up to three (10) years related experience or education.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics AX a must.
